Satanic Principles: You Are The Most Important Person In Your Life

It’s been a while since I talked about my Satanic Principles, so let’s do a little bit of a recap:

Since Satanism is such an individualistic religion and both major Satanic organizations have their own guiding principles, I felt it would be a good idea to create my own list of guiding principles as a Satanist. While The Church of Satan has the Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth and The Satanic Temple has The Seven Tenets, I have my nine Satanic Principles:

  1. Fuck The Man.
  2. You are responsible for your own choices.
  3. Sex and sexual desires are meant to be discussed openly and without shame.
  4. My body is my own.
  5. Object to that which affects you or your loved ones adversely.
  6. Don’t waste energy on pointless arguments.
  7. Creativity is a trait to be treasured and cultivated.
  8. Face that which is uncomfortable.
  9. You are the most important person in your life.

Of my nine Satanic Principles, “You are the most important person in your life,” is arguably the most important one. It may be the last one, but all the rest of them lead up to it. All of my Satanic Principles are meant to protect and nurture myself:

  1. “Fuck the man,” is meant to protect myself from unchecked authority and tyranny.
  2. “You are responsible for your own choices,” is meant to develop my own accountability and encourage me to make thoughtful decisions.
  3. “Sex and sexual desires are to be discussed openly and without shame,” is meant to help me nurture healthy sexual relationships, as well as direct and healthy communication in general.
  4. “My body is my own,” is meant to help protect me from those who wish to harm me, and it helps me nurture and establish healthy boundaries.
  5. “Object to that which affects you or your loved ones adversely,” expands that protection to those within my community, and it further nurtures healthy boundaries and communication.
  6. “Don’t waste your energy on pointless arguments,” protects my energy and emotional well-being, as well as serving as a reminder for what healthy communication actually looks like.
  7. “Creativity is a trait to be treasured and cultivated,” nurtures self-expression and enjoyment of life.
  8. “Face that which is uncomfortable,” reminds me to be self-aware and nurtures problem-solving skills.
  9. “You are the most important person in your life,” because you are the one living it. No one else.

This last Satanic Principle isn’t just a guiding principle for my life. It’s a dedication to myself and a reminder to love myself and unapologetically be myself. After all, if no one else around is going to love you, at least you will. And in my experience, that tends to attract all the other like-minded freaks and weirdos who will love you as much as you do.
