A few years ago, during a writing session with my writing group, I got caught playing on my phone. One of my groupmates gently admonished me, saying, “The demons say if you don’t write, they won’t play with you anymore.” I laughed and put pen to paper, but the concept of playing with demons stuck with me. While I don’t believe in literal demons as an atheistic Satanist, I love the idea of using demons as a metaphor for the things I love writing about.

Most of what you’ll see on Playing With Demons is my musings on the pros and cons of being a creative writer (or just creative writing in general) and short essays on Satanism. I am an atheistic agnostic Satanist, which can be a lonely road—especially while living in the Bible Belt region of the United States. Satanism wasn’t as visible in the US when I became one, and now that it’s getting more attention thanks to the efforts of The Satanic Temple, I want to make my contribution to the Satanic community by doing what I do best: writing. My hope is that my blog can serve as a guide to Satanism for those who are new to the religion or who are just curious.
